🌿 What Moving Reminded Me About Decluttering

Hello Reader,

Moving is right up there at the top of the stress scale. Change is hard. I wanted to make a change for a very long time. I actually tried to sell the house before and it didn't happen. However, the third time was the charm. Sometimes we can’t force what we want. A “no” or a delay doesn't necessarily mean “never.”

Some things are much harder to let go of than others.
I discovered that some things were easy to let go of: the roasting pan, my old purple boots. Cards, letters, photos, books, craft supplies and personal journals? A whole different story.

This is a perfect example of why decluttering isn't simply about deciding what is useful.

Clutter carries stories.
When you go through years of belongings, you're not just sorting objects. You're revisiting people, experiences, dreams, identities and different versions of yourself.

“Just in case” makes us hold on……but memories don't require us to keep everything.
Keeping things because we might use or need them someday is something most of us can relate to. Moving makes those decisions much harder to avoid.
Letting go of an object doesn't erase the person, experience or chapter connected to it. I experienced this as I went through a photo album from a trip to Australia. It was a trip down memory lane but also helped me to realize I didn’t need all of those photos to remember this trip.

You can be excited about change AND stressed by it.
Both can be true! You can know something is right for you and still feel overwhelmed, emotional, tired and frustrated by the process.

Sometimes you have to keep your eyes on the goal.
There were delays, unexpected problems and plenty of stuff to deal with. But keeping our focus on our why really helped us to keep moving forward.

A home isn't just the stuff inside it.
It's how you want to live. How you want to spend your time. Who you want to have over. How you want to feel when you walk through the door.

Declutter Before and After I felt like I had decluttered a lot of stuff, however once we got to our new house I could see that some things just weren't going to fit. Even though some things were cute and I liked them.....if I can't use them or have no space for them...... they are clutter.

❤️ Decluttering before a move is really about deciding what gets to come with you. Moving forces you to look at everything you own and you get to ask yourself “Do I really want to take this with me?”

Not just into a new house but into the next chapter of your life.

And sometimes that means asking:

“What do I want to make room for now?”

If you’re feeling stuck with your own clutter, you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

Sometimes having someone alongside you to help you slow down, make decisions and keep moving can make all the difference.

If you’d like some support, send me a message. ❤️

Hello Reader, “All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.”Havelock Ellis I love this quote because it feels so true. We want to let go of things, yet we can feel so attached to them. Sometimes it feels a little like a tug of war. I’ve heard that simply having something in our possession can create a sense of attachment to it. And then, at some point, we have to make a decision: Do I hold on, or do I let go? But I think this is about so much more than our...

Hello Reader, Oops! I totally messed up the countdown last week and apparently thought there was an extra week in there. 😂 Ugh! So, from last Monday it’s 4 days until we get the keys and 11 days until moving day. What? Things are getting real around here. This week we’ve been focused on what we’re actually bringing to the new place and, just as importantly, what needs to happen once we get there. The buyers of our house had their walk-through this week, which meant we had to spend quite a bit...
