Time to Embrace The Change

Hello Reader,

“All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.”
Havelock Ellis

I love this quote because it feels so true.

We want to let go of things, yet we can feel so attached to them.

Sometimes it feels a little like a tug of war.

I’ve heard that simply having something in our possession can create a sense of attachment to it. And then, at some point, we have to make a decision:

Do I hold on, or do I let go?

But I think this is about so much more than our stuff. We are constantly changing. And change can be hard.

Sometimes change means doing something uncomfortable to get to where we really want to go. It can mean doing something we have never done before. It can mean leaving behind what is familiar and stepping into the unknown.

I was reminded this past week that moving is considered one of the most stressful life events. And believe me, I get it!

We have been trying to make this moving experience as stress-free as possible, but life sometimes has other plans. Delays. Health concerns. Family issues. Unexpected things that need our attention.

When things come up, we just keep moving forward.

I keep my eyes on the prize:

Moving into my new home.

The dream I have had for so many years is finally coming true. The way I like to look at it is that I am going to get a whole new perspective on life. And with that new perspective comes an opportunity to grow.

Is it scary? Yes.

But I have taken a leap of faith, and I believe this change is going to work out for the best.

Change is Good

We change over time too. We aren't the same person we were a year ago or maybe even a month ago.

And that's why it can be so important to reassess our current needs, wants, and priorities.

Sometimes it's about a mindset shift. We may realize that we feel differently about something than we once did. And becoming aware of that is powerful.

Maybe something that was important to you five years ago isn't as important anymore. Maybe something you once couldn't imagine letting go of suddenly doesn't feel quite so difficult. Maybe you're ready for something different.

Change is one of the few things we can truly depend on because it is inevitable. Stillness is temporary. Being “in the moment” is temporary.

Life keeps moving.

And if we can learn to embrace change rather than constantly fight against it, perhaps we can move through it with a little more grace and ease.

Maybe that's part of the art of living:

Knowing what to hold on to… and knowing when it's time to let go.

Hello Reader, Oops! I totally messed up the countdown last week and apparently thought there was an extra week in there. 😂 Ugh! So, from last Monday it’s 4 days until we get the keys and 11 days until moving day. What? Things are getting real around here. This week we’ve been focused on what we’re actually bringing to the new place and, just as importantly, what needs to happen once we get there. The buyers of our house had their walk-through this week, which meant we had to spend quite a bit...

Hello Reader, One of the things I love about packing and moving is that you get to go through everything. You get to see what you have. And, perhaps more importantly, you get to decide what you don’t want to take into your next chapter. I’m at the point now where I need to make some tough decisions and I know you can probably relate. Here are a few of them from this past week The Big Roasting Pan I haven’t used this roasting pan in years. My thought process went something like this: “It would...
