Gifts You Don't Love

Hello Reader,

Do you have to keep every gift you're given?

“This gift that was given to me by my friend or family member was so thoughtful and appreciated that I can never let it go.”

Have you ever felt this way?

Many of us worry about hurting someone's feelings, even years after receiving a gift.

Gifts are given with good intentions. They are meant to be an expression of love, thoughtfulness, or friendship not an obligation that lasts forever.

Once a gift has been given to you, it is yours to decide what to do with it.

My friend gifted me a lovely heart that holds a small candle once upon a time and I hang this heart on my front door every February.

One day, the friend who gave it to me said, “I love the heart on your door!”

I had to tell her that she was the one who had given it to me.

She didn't even remember.

I think sometimes we worry so much about what the other person might think if we let go of something they gave us.

But the truth is, they may not even remember giving it to us.

And even if they do remember, that doesn't mean they expect us to keep it forever.

If something no longer fits your life, it's okay to donate it, pass it along, or even regift it thoughtfully.

I like to believe that the person who gave it to you would rather know that it brought joy to someone else than have it sitting in a cupboard making you feel guilty.

Think about how you feel when you give a gift to someone? Do you feel like there are expectations about what they do with it?

"Give yourself permission to make your own informed decisions about what you want for yourself and your home"

Here is a short video I created about a few reasons why we have resistance to clearing the clutter.

Hello Reader, Oops! I totally messed up the countdown last week and apparently thought there was an extra week in there. 😂 Ugh! So, from today it’s 4 days until we get the keys and 11 days until moving day. What?! Things are getting real around here. This week we’ve been focused on what we’re actually bringing to the new place and, just as importantly, what needs to happen once we get there. The buyers of our house had their walk-through this week, which meant we had to spend quite a bit of...

Hello Reader, One of the things I love about packing and moving is that you get to go through everything. You get to see what you have. And, perhaps more importantly, you get to decide what you don’t want to take into your next chapter. I’m at the point now where I need to make some tough decisions and I know you can probably relate. Here are a few of them from this past week The Big Roasting Pan I haven’t used this roasting pan in years. My thought process went something like this: “It would...
